Your Current Abilities Won't Hold You Back in Pilates

Your current ability does NOT matter.

Your current ability does NOT matter.

Your current ability does NOT matter.

Just Be You.

My niece was staying over one night and asked me what all my Pilates equipment was. And because I am a Pilates nerd - I, of course, had to show her a few fun things.

She was like "wow" and then she said she wasn’t sure if she could do any of it because she wasn’t strong like me. It got me thinking about how many times I talk with people who are just starting back into fitness and are feeling very insecure because they think their teacher will judge them / their movement abilities.

Every time someone shares a story like this with me, I make sure they know:

  • You are stronger than you think you are.

  • I'm not here to judge you, I'm here to help you find a way move that feels right for you.

  • We all have to start somewhere.

  • Your body will figure out what it needs to do.

  • Movement doesn't have to be pretty to be functional.

Starting somewhere is the hardest part. If you've walked in the door (in person or virtually) - you've already succeeded.

Give yourself permission to start something new or try something different.

Also, give yourself permission to totally SUCK at something new. You’ll LEARN SO MUCH!

Failure needs to be rebranded as a super cool way to learn something new.

If it scares you a bit, or if you tend to get inside your own head, try saying this to yourself: That was interesting. What did I just learn about myself?

It might just change...EVERYTHING!

Here's a short series using the Pilates Tower and the Balanced Body Arc Lite. I love a good balance / stability challenge! Don't forget to do both sides!

Pilates never ceases to amaze me. Even after years of practice, movements that seem like they should be simple can still be quite challenging. It's why I love it so much. I get to learn so much about myself and my body.

I'd love to know your thoughts! Please leave your thoughts in the comments. And if you like the series above, please subscribe to my YouTube Channel! I would love to make more content to share on the blog!

"Also, give yourself permission to totally SUCK at something new. You’ll LEARN SO MUCH!" I had this realization last year and it increased my enjoyment of hobbies/activites. Not only am I allowed to suck at things I can also celebrate the minor improvements I make while still be objectively bad at something.
